WELCOME TO MODERN MUSE

Hey, I'm Lois!

This is a movement for heart—led, impact—driven women, where we're being our own muse and building a magnetic brand that transforms lives, while experiencing more richness in our own; more joy, play, adventure, gratitude, peace, presence, celebration, love, fun, fulfilment, freedom.

We're saying no to:

— hustle culture and burnout

— having to be someone you're not in your business

— marketing and sales rooted in prodding at people's pain, shame, pushy tactics, or fear based strategies

And yes to:

— defining and pursuing your own version of success; how you want your life and business to look and more importantly, feel

— your uniqueness being your magic; building a brand that feels like you and attracting dream clients who love you for exactly who you are

— marketing and sales rooted in connection, purpose, authenticity, desire and empowerment

MY VALUES

ANTI—HUSTLE | ANTI—BURNOUT — after experiencing severe burnout, becoming ill and experiencing a major health scare, I'm not about hustling at your expense. I believe rest, space to live your life, and prioritising joy are truly productive; you can show up and overflow into others when you've shown up for yourself and filled your own cup first

FREEDOM — freedom to express yourself (your uniqueness is your magic); to define, pursue and create your own version of success; to build your business based on your values, strengths, vibe, vision, capacity; to lead with self—trust, listen to your internal compass and do things your way

FUN — you don't need to be serious to be taken seriously; when you're having fun, expressing yourself and enjoying the journey, your energy is magnetic. You showing your playful, silly, goofy sides doesn't make you any less of a leader, it doesn't make your work any less transformational — I believe that being you and shining your light amplifies your leadership as you're empowering others to be themselves too, you’re showing them that they get to unlearn the conditioning around needing to be and show up a certain way to succeed

IMPACT — we make the world a better place when we lead with impact, purpose, passion and service; we get to transform lives with our magic, message and mission

MASTERY — being a lifelong learner, a forever student; being committed to mastering your craft so you can continue to deeply serve and support your community, your clients as you continue to grow and evolve

MY STORY

So what led me to where I am today? Let's rewind and go back to where it all began…

Playing the role of a teacher in my bedroom with my cuddly toys (the 7 dwarves — well, actually 8, I had 2 Dopey’s because he was my FAVE!); they’d be my students, while my older sister played the role of receptionist…

From a young age, I'd always loved the idea of becoming a teacher, but during high school and college, I didn't like conforming to things that just didn’t seem to make any sense and I often felt like I was 'too much'.

My business mind came out to play in high school — at 12, I started selling chocolate, cake and sweets on my school bus (and even hired my first employee 🤣). At 14, during the summer holiday, I washed cars to earn more money alongside my weekend job.

I was really interested in both business and teaching — but initially applied to study business at uni. However, after essentially failing an A—Level, I couldn't get into my uni choice. I remember a teacher saying that education wasn't for me and instead, I should pursue "an apprenticeship in plumbing or as an electrician".

This experience activated something within me and made me more determined to become a teacher and empower others to see their uniqueness as their magic and pursue their dreams (because they're ours for a reason), no matter the setbacks, challenges or obstacles they experience.

So, I got a full—time job in sales while learning psychology by myself and sat the exams as an external student (and actually got the highest grades in any exams I’d EVER sat — the temptation to send a copy to the teacher at my previous college was REAL).

I finally got my space at my chosen uni and in the second year, attended a guest seminar that introduced me to growth mindset. I felt SO lit up, I focused my dissertation on it and then introduced the theory and techniques into the schools I worked at.

— ooo lil side story, during uni, I also founded my first online business, designing personalised and bespoke clothing with the mission to empower self—expression; for people to unleash their uniqueness. The highlight was creating a bridal jacket — all the wifey for lifey vibes!

While teaching, I became severely burned out from working 80 hour weeks in a toxic environment… I was really unhappy, I'd totally lost myself and my relationship had broken down as basically all I did was work.

One day, I was lying in my bath, in floods of tears with a migraine and I finally heard the voice of someone saying “you're replaceable to your job but not your loved ones” and something clicked.

I was giving everything while completely abandoning myself to a place that could have someone else stood in that classroom the next day.

I knew things needed to change, and I decided the first step was to prioritise pouring into my cup, to spend time getting to know me again, so I began creating content on Instagram as a way to play, experiment and rediscover my style (I'd always loved fashion but had lost this passion over the previous few years). Within 10 months, I'd built a community of 10k, was attracting partnerships, and went on to work with brands such as Karen Millen, Mejuri, The Ivy and Desenio.

Around 8 months into the journey of creating content, I received a call from the head teacher telling me to delete my social media and through the confidence I'd built over the past months of beginning to prioritise me again, I had the courage to say no, and shortly after, decided to hand in my notice with no concrete plan in place.

In the month I officially left, I had a major health scare and was in and out of hospital for a year and a half which further taught me the importance of prioritising your health, pursuing your dreams and living a life that makes you feel alive

Throughout that time, I'd been building Modern Muse (which started as social media coaching/management) and had been starting to feel off — I wasn’t excited about the direction I was heading in, I wasn't feeling truly aligned. So I stopped and tuned in…

Here’s some things that came up:

— I’d outsourced my power and prioritised other people’s rules, musts, shoulds instead of listening to my own internal compass, inner knowing and leaning into what lights me up and aligns with my uniqueness

— I hadn’t truly defined and owned my version of success so I was absorbing what others were saying I should be working towards, what I should be desiring

…so it was like I was building someone else’s dream business and life.

— I’d thought I’d feel truly happy and fulfilled when I’d hit milestones, and I realised hitting the goals actually just amplifies how you're really feeling within

— fears and limiting beliefs were holding me back from pursuing what was in my heart; I needed to break through those glass ceilings because our dreams are ours for a reason

I realised to build a business you love, that lasts, it’s about coming home to yourself: to your uniqueness, your version of success, your truth, your values, your mission.

So I embarked on a deeper journey of self—discovery, cultivating self—love and elevating my identity/beliefs, and rebuilt my business  foundations to align with who I am, why I'm here, the life I desire and the impact I'm wanting to create.

That’s how you’ll build a business that’s energising, sustainable, fun, freeing, fulfilling… magnetic

That's how you'll build a brand that truly feels like you… and attract your dream clients who specifically want to work with you

That's how you'll feel deliciously content along the journey, and the inevitable results are the cherry on top of the cake.

I recently was walking Lola with my hubby, I turned to him with my eyes welled up and said “I feel like I’m truly in my purpose, what I’m meant to be doing. I’m so proud of myself for doing the work to get here, I can see how everything’s happened for me. I’m so excited about what’s to come… we're going to help change so many lives” — that feels like magic.

It feels like a full circle moment.

I'm now building a business, where I get to teach heart—led, impact—driven women how to be their own muse and build a magnetic brand that transforms lives, while experiencing more richness in their own.

And here's a peak of a couple of things in my vision, alongside serving you in Modern Muse:

— a product—based business that aligns with my mission, movement

— a children's book around our uniqueness being our magic

Eeeeekkk!!!

That message in your heart — it is there for a reason.

That mission in your soul — it is there for a reason.

That uniqueness in you — it is there for a reason.

I can’t wait to see where the journey take us next! It's going to be magic.
